East Tennessee North Carolina High Country
Southern Appalachians Upstate South Carolina
Southern Appalachians – The southwestern corner of North Carolina is home to America’s largest home, a folk school helping to carry on the traditional arts of the Appalachian Mountains, and a famous writer who proclaimed, “You can’t go home again.” The towns of Asheville, Hendersonville, and Waynesville celebrate their heritage and uniqueness throughout the year. Waynesville welcomes the world to its doorstep with the annual Folkmoot Festival; Hendersonville fetes all things apple with its annual North Carolina Apple Festival; and Asheville is a center for creativity and craft with dozens and dozens of fine arts and craft galleries showcasing the contemporary and the classic. Don’t forget the outdoors. The pleasant summertime temperatures attracted many early travelers to the gentle slopes of the Smokies and the Blue Ridge where they found tranquil waterfalls, far ranging vistas, and challenging trails.
