The Boone store has a long tradition of retailing. The building was constructed in 1913 and 1917. One side of the building was actually a bank at one time - The People's Bank. Other tenants of the building included a five and dime, a restaurant, and one of the first radio stations in this area. In 1940, a local gentleman named Guy Hunt opened his department store and provided locals with a wide selection and friendly, down-home service. Hunt's occupied the building until 1987.
Now, Mast Store's Old Boone Mercantile is brimming with items from all areas of the Mast Store - mercantile with its cast iron cookware, coffees, and Amish rocking chairs; outdoor and shoes with brand names like Asolo, Lowa, Royal Robbins, Patagonia, Kelty , and Jansport; fashion featuring Woolrich, Flyshacker Flannels, Northern Isles, and Columbia Sportswear. Also at the Boone location is a treat for young and old alike - 500 old-fashioned, hard-to-find candies overflowing from barrels. Family Fun Magazine calls it "better than Halloween."
