The 1909 Annex building, just two-tenths of a mile from the Original Mast Store, houses Mast's unique variety of casual fashions from Woolrich, Northern Isles, and Columbia along with others and outdoor gear from Royal Robbins, MSR, Gregory, Patagonia, and Mountain Hardwear . In the same building is a nostalgic haven for sweet tooth sufferers from across the land. Here you'll find barrels overflowing with 500 hard-to-find confections from the past including Mary Janes, Squirrel Nut Zippers, and wax bottles.
At one time a competing general store, The Annex has had numerous names, including Watauga Supply Co. (named after the nearby Watauga River) and the Valle Crucis Company. Inside, the walls are fashioned from wormy chestnut cut from the now extinct American Chestnut tree that once covered the gentle slopes of the Appalachians. The track ladder along the left wall remains where shopkeepers of old fetched down brogans, overalls, garters, and piece goods.
